From the Principal

Welcome to St. Elizabeth! Located in the heart of Waldo, St. Elizabeth School and parish are proud members of this eclectic and vibrant community. Our school has been providing quality educational opportunities for 94 years founded in our Catholic faith, in partnership with families, and committed to strong academic standards.

A typical day at St. Elizabeth starts with prayer, initiating students and teachers into our Christ centered – child focused learning environment. Students are provided sound foundational learning in reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Additionally we incorporate handwriting and the Second Step curriculum; both of these curricula enhance our commitment to brain compatible learning. We know that handwriting particularly cursive writing activates the brain in the language center making connections and building fluency.

The Second Step curriculum is a social emotional well-being program designed to build empathy and understanding of emotions in students as children learn how these affect social and academic success. This proactive program supports conflict resolution, acceptance of differences, and self-control. We are implementing the concept of Blended Learning into our Elementary and Jr. High programs as a method to utilize technology to facilitate learning through differentiation and increased student engagement. We also strive to use data to guide our instructional practices. We participate in the IOWA assessment as our tool for standardized testing and diocesan formative assessment to measure standards implementation and student achievement.

Because we believe strongly in offering opportunities that contribute to well-rounded development; physical education, music, art, library and Spanish are all ancillary offerings that enable students to explore and develop a variety of talents. Along with after school activities like band, math club, science club, Bricks for Kids, Young Rembrandts, parochial league athletics, juggling club and more – students have opportunities to extend learning further.

St. Elizabeth School has a commitment to be a school of service. Each year teachers and parents support efforts to put our faith into practice. A variety of community based activities take place during our school day – from the Jr. High Walk-a-thon to our school wide day of service – students experience the role they play in creating a better world and living out our baptismal promises.

As a learning community we recognize the role that technology plays in our world and the integral part it has in the lives and learning of our students. Along with an updated computer lab and chrome book carts, most classrooms are outfitted with interactive white boards that provide great functionality as well as motivating options in learning. I pads are available for student use in elementary classrooms. An instructional technology coach supports teachers with guidance on planning and implementation of technology tools. Parent technology workshops and informational articles on safety, devices and applications are offered to support the entire community in safe and productive use of technology.

St. Elizabeth has a lot to offer but at the heart of all these opportunities is the wonderful faith community that supports our mission. We are blessed by our talented teaching staff, who in partnership with families continue the long standing focus of St. Elizabeth Parish to provide a Christ-centered, child focused learning environment where Catholic ideals and a tradition of excellence are instilled.

I’m the proud principal of St. Elizabeth Catholic School and I welcome your interest in our educational ministry. Please explore our web site, learn more about us, and of course, contact us to find out how your family and student can become part of our community!

God’s Blessings,
